Antique Canopy Beds

When selecting antique canopy beds for your home, it’s a good idea to know exactly what options are available.  Antique beds range from colonial to Victorian to medieval, and even more.  There are many different options for bed styles, so you should consider three things: the room you’re putting the bed in, the style of home you have, and who will be using the bed.

1. Bedroom styles

If your bedroom is dark or not lit very well with natural window light, a brighter-colored frame for canopy beds might be a good choice.  Having a bed that offsets the room colors makes it more appealing and naturally draws the eyes to it.  You can select lighter color woods such as maple and oak for your bed frame.

2. Home styles

If your house has a rustic themed or country themed look then antique canopy beds will undoubtedly make a good addition to the home.  However, if you have a more contemporary or art deco style of home, an antique bed might look out of place.  This is important to think about before getting any canopy bed, as you don’t want to purchase it and later find out it looks ugly in your bedroom.

3. People using the bed

If canopy beds are to be used by children, they need to be sturdy.  Antique beds make a good addition to a child’s room, provided that room meets the above criteria.  It’s important to select a good, solid style of wood frame so that the bed can handle jumping and activity it might face when the child has friends over.

These are good starting points to think about when selecting canopy beds for your home.  The bedroom style, style of your home, and people who will be using the bed all play a big part in selecting beds, and determining whether or not an antique bed style is right for you.
