The Job I Learned to Love

It is really hard to get sick. I had to drink water excessively to help the sickness go away and because of that, I had to wake up in the middle of the night just to pee. The worst thing of all, I had to be absent from work. I work as a manager in a small Japanese koi for sale store. We sell different types of koi such as the Asagi koi, Tancho, Black koi, and many more.

I love my work not only because I am well compensated but also because I love seeing the koi fish everyday. They make my day so to speak. Seeing them swimming around with their wonderful and vibrant colors gives me a lighter feeling especially on a gloomy day.

Honestly, I never thought of working there because I never loved fish and I never liked how they smell. The feeling of holding them makes me want to vomit. But it was five years ago when my mom told me to get a summer job to make money so that I can get into college. Although at that time I was only earning $4.00 per hour, it helped augment my needs in school. I worked 36 hours per week that includes Saturdays and Sundays. I help in the cleaning of the tanks and ponds, in the feeding of the koi fish as well as giving pamphlets to passers by. The longer I stayed working there, the more I loved my job. My co-workers are so helpful and kind. The owner of the shop is very kind and generous too. Whenever we sell a lot koi fish in a week, he gives us an extra bonus.

After graduating in college, the owner offered me a job of becoming a store manager. He told me that he is getting old and it is best for me to handle his business since I know everything about the business operation.  He offered me a good amount of salary and bonuses as well.

I can’t wait to get better soon so that I could go back to work and see the fish that I have learned to loved.
